Insides on the outside

  • When I came across this webpage, and scrolled down very fast, my stomach churned and I could feel cold sensations in the tips of fingers. I only got halfway and looked away from my screen.
After a moment I resumed and this time round I got the courage to scroll don to the last image. and by the fourth time, I was even identifying some of the organs.
Well I guess the first repulsion is from seeing our inside from the outside so artistically represented!
    Enjoy the Art…

Koen Hauser: Modische Atlas der Anatomie

Incredible (and squeamish) anatomical portraits courtesy of Koen Hauser

Prepare to be amazed/repulsed/intrigued/impressed by Koen Hauser. A Gerrit Rietveld graduate and apparently one of those artists that never likes to do the same project twice, Koen’s portfolio boasts a huge range of remarkable photographs focusing on uncommon concepts such as anatomy, ephemera, precious stones and catfish.

This project (from 2000) entitled Anatomy delves into what lies beneath a model’s skin and as Koen states: “The – at the time – groundbreaking way of applying digital manipulation in this elegant dissection of the human body has made this series very popular.” And he’s not wrong. This series of unsettlingly beautiful portraits have been featured in almost too many magazines to mention, and due to their ability to keep being fantastic as the years go by, continue to do so.
